Eamon Coleman has been appointed for a three-year term

Cavan have named former Derry manager Eamon Coleman as successor to Mattie Kerrigan.

Coleman has been appointed as boss of the Breffni Blues for three years.

It is expected Coleman's next move will be to assemble his management team.

He said he would organised a meeting with the players in late October or early November.

Full-scale training will begin after Christmas as Coleman undertakes the difficult task or rebuilding Cavan as a force in Ulster football.

The Breffni outfit have won just one Ulster title in the last 34 years, under Martin McHugh in 1997.

"At the moment, it would be an achievement for Cavan to get past the first round of the Ulster Championship," said Coleman.

"I hope to achieve something over the next three years in building a team."
