Forde linked with Cavan job
Mattie Kerrigan did not wish to continue as manager of Cavan
Cavan boss Mattie Kerrigan had no joy in the 2003 Championship

Former Sligo boss Peter Forde has become the early favourite to take the vacant Cavan job.

The Breffni County are on the lookout for a new boss after Mattie Kerrigan's decision to quit the post earlier this week.

Cavan officials have said that there will be no rush in appointing a new boss but Forde's name is already been mentioned as a likely replacement.

Forde quit as Sligo boss last month after the county's championship defeat by Donegal.

He guided Sligo to the All-Ireland Quarter-Finals last year where Armagh needed a replay to emerge victories.

Forde has experience of Cavan football having guided Cavan Gaels to the 2001 county championship.

Inevitably, Val Andrews, who resigned as Cavan boss in 2001, has been mentioned as a possible replacement for Kerrigan but the acrimonious nature of his departure two years ago makes a return highly unlikely.

Eamon Coleman, Paddy Clarke, ex-Monaghan boss Michael McCormack and Cavan U21 boss John Brady are among another names being mentioned in connection with the role.
