Wexford 0-9 3-10 Derry Midfielder Anthony Tohill scored first half injury-time goal |
Derry cruised into the second round of the All-Ireland qualification competition with a comfortable victory in Wexford.
Goals by Anthony Tohill, Dermot Dougan and Enda Muldoon did the damage after Wexford lead for most of the opening period.
It was those two goals by Tohill and Dougan late in first-half injury time that made all the difference.
Mattie Ford had scored four of Wexford's six points, and were giving Derry a torrid time with Paddy Bradley's points keeping his side in the contest.
The second half was virtually a stroll for Derry with Wexford still shell-shocked following those two strikes just before the break.
Midway through the half, Martin Harney, Geoffrey McGonigle and Johnny McBride all hit points to cancel out any advantage that Wexford had.
Two Tohill frees then pushed Derry virtually out of sight before Muldoon sealed the victory with the third goal two minutes from the end with Sean Marty Lockhart and Harney adding points in injury time.
