Sean Cavanagh was injured playing for his club Moy recently |
Tyrone's championship hopes have suffered a double blow with both Sean Cavanagh and Cormac McAnallen on the injured list.
Midfielder Cavanagh, chipped a bone in his ankle while playing for his club Moy, while McAnallen has a cracked checkbone.
Both are ruled out of the Ulster semi-final against Antrim on 15 June and could face a race against time to be fit for the provincial decider should Tyrone, as expected, make the 13 July showpiece.
Team boss Mickey Harte is also awaiting news on Stephen O'Neill whose damaged shoulder ligaments are proving slow to respond to treatment.
Cavanagh's injury in particular, is a "big loss for Tyrone".
"I feel sorry for the young fellow himself," said Harte.
"He just finished his exams and was looking forward to a good summer of football whether it was with his club or county.
"He will miss the game against Antrim and I certainly wouldn't dare look beyond that".
His display against Derry in Saturday's replay was one of the best performances produced by an Ulster midfielder for some time.
All I want is a bit of understanding and flexibility from both sides |
Ciaran Gourley replaced the injured Cormac McAnallen at half-time in Saturday's match and he will now be in line to link up with the Eglish man in the Tyrone midfield against Antrim.
Alternatively Harte could switch Kevin Hughes back to midfield while the manager also suggested that Ryan Mellon could be in the frame for the midfield slot.
"If Ryan Mellon was to recover from his illness, he would come into contention.
"Kevin Hughes is always an option while Peter Loughran has been in the panel all year and hasn't really had a chance".
Despite Cavanagh's injury, Harte said he still favours players lining out for their clubs.
"The clubs and the hierarchy know know that I want players playing for their clubs.
"All I want is a bit of understanding and flexibility from both sides."
