Harte disgust at Devlin ban
Mickey Harte feels Gavin Devlin has been harshly treated

Tyrone boss Mickey Harte's satisfaction with a job well done against Derry at Casement was tempered by fury at the 12-week ban handed out to defender Gavin Devlin.

A disciplinary meeting of the GAA's Games Administration Committee on Saturday morning found Devlin guilty of stamping on Laois forward Colm Parkinson in the National League Final.

Tyrone officials had hoped that the hearing would have been delayed until 28 May but the GAC insisted on hearing the Devlin case on Saturday morning.

Harte said he was "disgusted" by Saturday's verdict.

"It doesn't seem to be a level playing field and us people in the north don't feel like we're getting a level playing field," said Harte.

"In other provinces, they seem to get away with it.

"I'm not trying to defend anything that happened but we're saying that the system doesn't seem to be dealing fairly with us".

Harte's sense of grievance will only have been increased by the GAC's decision on Saturday to hand Clare hurler Seanie McMahon only a month's ban.

With Cormac McAnallen, I wonder will there be so much video evidence there

They had been widespread speculation that McMahon would be given a three-month ban arising from an incident in last weekend's Munster Hurling win over Tipperary.

Harte hinted that midfielder Cormac McAnallen had been on the receiving end of an Anthony Tohill elbow in the first half of Saturday's game.

"His nose is damaged and his mouth is damaged and you don't get that from the ball.

"We had a player today suspended for three months on so-called video evidence unlike others who got off with much less or off altogether.

"Now with Cormac McAnallen, I wonder will there be so much video evidence there".

On 14 May Devlin was charged with the offence but in advance of the hearing, he was able to line out for Tyrone against Derry last weekend.

A suspension which started from 18 May will see him ruled out of football until 10 August - thus missing the entire Ulster Championship.

Devlin would also miss a possible All-Ireland Quarter-Final which is scheduled for the weekend of 2/4 August.

Despite his annoyance over Devlin's situation, Harte was thoroughly satisfield with his team's performance out on the field.

"Our players had to battle very hard from start to finish.

"If they hadn't done, then they wouldn't have had the gap that they had at the finish.

"We're not home and dry and while Derry were beaten today, they are not gone.

"We weren't as bad as people suggested last week and we're probably not as good as we looked today".

Harte felt that the key to the victory was the way his team capitalised on the first half wind advantage.

Man-of-the-match Sean Cavanagh said the win showed that Tyrone have "bottle".

"We read in the papers during the week that Tyrone couldn't cut it in the championship after winning the league," said the Moy man.

In addition to the suspensions handed out to Devlin and McMahon, the GAC gave a one-month ban to Derry's Conleth Gilligan arising from his sending-off in last Sunday's drawn game.
