Newtownards man Gordon Crockard was second in Sunday's third round of the World Motocross Championship in Germany.

The CAS Honda rider's participation in the Grand Prix of Europe had been in doubt after he sustained a shoulder injury when crashing out of last month's Dutch Grand Prix.

With Crockard having finished fourth in the opening round in Spain, he now lies sixth in the world standings on 40 points.

Defending world champion Mikael Pichon took his third consecutive victory in Sunday's race to maintain his domination of the series.

Meanwhile, Toomebridge rider Michael Laverty was fifth in Sunday's final qualifying session for Monday's round of the British Supersport Championship at Oulton Park.

Adrian Coates will also start from the second row, having been eighth fastest while Ryan Rainey was 27th in the qualifying session.

Eugene Laverty was 11th fastest for the 125cc race while Jonathan Rea was 16th.

In the Superstock class, John Laverty qualified ninth while Stephen Thompson was 16th.
