Gordon Crockard hails from Newtownards
Gordon Crockard could be out of action for a number of weeks

Ulsterman Gordon Crockard suffered a broken collarbone when crashing out on the opening lap of the Dutch Motocross GP in Valkenswaard.

Crockard was taken to hospital after the race and he is expected to fly home to have an operation later this week.

The Newtownards rider, who started from seventh on the grid, finished fourth in the opening round of the world series in Spain.

Victory in Holland went to defending world champion Mickael Pichon ahead of Joel Smets and Kenneth Gundersen.

Crockard slips to ninth in the overall championship standings - 32 points behind Pichon.

At Snetterton meanwhile, Toomebridge rider Michael Laverty won Sunday's race in the second round of the British Supersport Championship.

Laverty, who had qualified ninth on the grid, took the victory with another Ulsterman Adrian Coates in fourth place.

The winner's brother John Laverty took ninth with Stephen Thompson 10th, Marshall Neill 11th and Marty Nutt 12th.

Meanwhile, Philip McCullough won two of the three races at Saturday's opening round of the Ulster Motocross Championship at Donemana.

Adam Lyons won the other race.
