Waterford hammer Derry hurlers

Waterford 4-20 2-4 Derry

Waterford handed out a 22-point hammering to already-relegated Derry in Saturday's Allianz National Hurling game.

The Munster champions led by nine points at the interval - 0-13 to 1-1.

However, Waterford opened up in the second half to hit 3-7 against the outclassed Ulster side.

Derry started poorly and allowed Waterford to almost pick off points at will in the opening quarter with Dave Bennett helping himself to six scores.

John O'Dwyer hit Derry's opening goal in the 20th minute but it was the only bright spot of a dismal first half performance by the northerners.

Paul O'Brien struck Waterford's opening goal four minutes after half-time and Eoin Kelly then notched a hat-trick of goals to put even more daylight between the sides.

John O'Dwyer scored a second goal and Michael Collins notched two points in the final quarter but Waterford were easing up by that stage.
