Dinny Cahill will be concerned about the concession of five goals |
Antrim 1-22 5-7 Meath
Antrim hurlers kept their promotion hopes alive with a three-point victory over a battling Meath side at Casement Park.
However, Dinny Cahill's side needed an injury-time goal from Dermot McAuley to claim the two league points.
Before the game, there had been doubts whether Meath would even turn up after a well-publicised row between the management and county board over the arrangement of club football games.
However, manager Michael Duignan and his backroom team were present along with the squad and the Royal County's goal-poaching ability caused huge problems for the Antrim defence.
Playing with the wind Antrim seemed well in control when they reeled off a succession of points to lead 0-11 to 0-1 by the 26th minute.
However, Mickey Cole struck two goals before half-time which cut Antrim's advantage to 0-13 to 2-3 at the interval.
With Brian McFall scoring some fine points, Antrim bossed the early part of the second half only for Meath captain Nicky Horan to lash in two frees to the net to put the Leinster county ahead at 4-4 to 0-15.
Meath maintained a one-point lead as the game entered injury but Gregory O'Kane's equalising point and Dermot McAuley's goal ensured the home victory.
Brian McFall top-scored for Antrim with 12 points.
Also in Division Two, Down hurlers claimed a 2-15 to 0-14 away win over Carlow.
