Smyth back for Glens
Gary Smyth missed the Co Antrim Shield victory over Linfield
Glentoran defender Gary Smyth has recovered from a knee injury

Central defender Gary Smyth is back in the Glentoran panel as the runaway Premier Division leaders continue their charge towards the title.

Smyth picked up a knee injury in last Saturday's important win over second-placed Portadown which forced him to miss the County Antrim Shield semi-final against Linfield.

But the in-form player is available for selection as Roy Coyle's men take on Ards at Taylor's Avenue.

"There was swelling behind the calf muscle and my knee was stiff but I am fine now," said Smyth.

"I plan to train with the rest of the lads on Thursday night and be available for selection for the Ards game."

Smyth, rated as a contender for player of the season, is anxious the Glens maintain the superb run of results which has seen them pull 12 points clear at the top.

"It is important that we do not pay any heed to people who are saying the title race is over," said Smyth.

"There are still 27 point to play for so it is daft to believe we are past the post."
