Eva Massey set a Northern Ireland shot-putt record in Birmingham on Saturday.

The new record of 15.74 metres came at the start of the UK Athletics indoor series.

She beat his previous indoor record of 15.10, while her outdoor record stands at 15.57.

"I have been working hard all winter and it seems to be coming together," said Massey.

"I am just back from training in Tenerife and am a lot stronger than I was last year.

"As well as my technique, I have been working on strength and conditioning."

Massey competed at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester but did not do well having just recovered from a broken wrist.

Massey collected a bronze medal in the AAA Championships in June 2002.

Her next event will be the Irish Indoor Championships at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast in two weeks' time.
