Armagh goalkeeper Benny Tierney has been called up for the Allstar tour to the United States next month.

The Mullaghbawn man, who helped Armagh win the All-Ireland title this year, is one of five players who have been selected as Allstar replacements for the trip.

Tierney is called up along with Tyrone full-back Chris Lawn, Wexford's Leigh O'Brien, David Mitchell of Westmeath and Tipperary star Declan Browne.

The party, which leaves for the US on 15 January, will take part in an exhibition match in San Diego between the Allstar selections of 2001 and 2002.

Seven members of Armagh's All-Ireland winning team will tour.

Kieran McGeeney leads the party that also includes Oisin McConville, Paul McGrane, Steven McDonnell, Enda McNulty, Aidan O'Rourke and Tierney.

Armagh's team manager Joe Kernan will take charge of the 2002 selection and John O'Mahony will manage the 2001 team.

The tour marks the return after a long absence of the Allstars to California, one of the original venues for the annual tours when they began in the 1970s.

Organisers in San Diego have reported phenomenal interest from the Irish communities in San Francisco and Los Angeles in the event which is being heavily promoted on the west coast.

Longford's John Bannon has been chosen to referee the game and he will receive his referee of the year award during the trip.

Aodan MacSuibhne from Dublin has been chosen for the Vodafone hurling referee award and will be with the touring party on the week-long trip.

Marty Morris has been named as the new Dublin senior hurling manager.

Morris played senior hurling with Dublin and managed O'Tooles when they won the Dublin title in 1995, 1996 and 1997.
