| Thursday, 14 November, 2002, 21:54 GMT Harte is new Tyrone boss
The Senior Board confirmed on Thursday evening that Harte would step into the role vacated by dual bosses Eugene McKenna and Art McRory. Harte was ratified following recommendations by a five-man selection committee who preferred the Errigal Ciaran boss ahead fancied duo Brian McIver and McKenna. McKenna in particular will be disappointed at his failure to continue in a solo role following McRory's resignation due to health reasons. The popular Harte, however, has proved he has the calibre to bring success to the county, and has already worked with many of the players as they came up through the ranks. A former county player himself, Harte guided the Tyrone Minor and under-21 sides to All-Ireland successes in the past. Harte is presently engaged in attempting to help his club side through their Ulster Championship quarter-final saga with Crossmaglen. Errigal Ciaran are due to face the Armagh champions at Clones on Sunday for the third time following two stalemates. Harte is likely to name Fr Gerard McAleer as his assisant. The pair have helped the county to six Ulster and three All-Ireland titles at various levels in the past. | See also: 13 Nov 02 | N Ireland 13 Nov 02 | N Ireland 12 Nov 02 | N Ireland Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top N Ireland stories now: Links to more N Ireland stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
