Dunloy sink 'Ferry challenge
Martin Curry (right) has developed into a key Dunloy player over the last year

Dunloy 0-12 1-6 Portaferry

Dunloy repelled a brave Portaferry challenge to claim the Antrim club's third successive AIB Ulster Club title.

In a final played in bad underfoot conditions in Loughgiel, Gregory O'Kane's six points proved crucial although the forward blotted his copybook near the end by being sent off.

Dunloy adapted to the elements better and in O'Kane had the match's key player.

Portaferry were in the contest throughout with Dunloy leading 0-6 to 0-4 at the interval.

Crucial Curry

The Down side's full-back line and goalkeeper Gary Smyth all shone in the first half to snuff out a number of Dunloy attacks.

Peter Mallon missed a great goal chance for Portaferry 12 minutes into the second half which would have levelled matters.

However, a minute later Noel Sands did rattle the Dunloy net to set up a tense final quarter.

Perhaps crucially, O'Kane immediately slotted over a free from halfway to restore Dunloy's lead.

Two late points from Martin Curry helped edge Dunloy clear to safety.
