Organisers of Rally Isle of Man have announced there will be an exciting new start to this year's event.

The rally will open with crews firing into action directly in front of the TT Grandstand as they look to increase it's appeal to spectators.

Clerk of the course Les Postlethwaite said: "We hope the move will prove popular with fans and drivers alike."

The two-day rally will cover 153 stage miles over 21 of the Island's famed closed-roads tests.

From the start, the crews will turn hairpin right, heading up Glencrutchey Road to Governors Bridge and then left towards the finish just before Bedstead Corner.

Postlethwaite added: "This will be something quite unique for the top British Championship stars.

"We'd like to thank both the authorities and the local residents for their co-operation."

In 2009, Manxman Mark Higgins claimed a record-breaking fifth Rally Isle of Man title after an epic battle with Cork driver Keith Cronin.

The rally is taking place on 9 and 10 July.
