Mear re-joined the Hammers for the 2011 season

Lakeside Hammers' Robert Mear has been called up to the Great Britain squad for the second Ashes Speedway Test against Australia next month.

Mear will make his debut in the fixture on 3 June, which is being held at Lakeside's track.

Hammers team owner Stuart Douglas said: "I am sure this selection will give everyone at the club great pride.

"I can't wait to see him in full flow around our Raceway with the union jacket on his chest."

Mear has been ever-present for the Hammers since returning to the sport after a year out.

He scored a season-high 11 points in Saturday's home win against Kings Lynn.

Great Britain face Australia on 1 June at Poole before the series moves on to Lakeside.

The fixture scheduled for 2 June at Swindon has been postponed.
