Scott Nicholls focusing on league form for Witches

Nicholls is in his third spell with the Ipswich Witches

Ipswich Witches rider Scott Nicholls believes missing out on the Speedway Grand Prix series this year could help him regain his form.

Nicholls, 31, has not qualified for 2010 and says he has mixed feelings.

He told BBC Radio Suffolk: "Of course I'm disappointed not to be in the GP's, but I'm relieved and excited not to be in them on the other side of it.

"I'm excited because I can concentrate on my league form and on enjoying my racing so I can be at my best again."

Nicholls will ride in the number one berth for Ipswich in the forthcoming season and feels the track improvements at Foxhall Stadium will improve the racing spectacle for fans.

"There is a noticeable difference in the amount of room you've got to race with, I think it will be good for racing lines which is brilliant.

"For me personally in some respects it's not so good because I really enjoyed the old track. As it was a bit narrow I had the confidence to have a bit of a battle, whereas a lot of the riders didn't.

"I think it will give every rider a lot more confidence to have a battle, so for the fans hopefully there's going to be much better racing for them to watch."
