The Hammers could not hold on to their early advantage |
Lakeside Hammers relinquished a six- point lead to lose their opening Elite League meeting 52-41 at Wolverhampton. The Hammers won the opening three heats and led the home side by six points after five races and were still leading 26-28 after the ninth heat. However, five Wolverhampton wins from the final six races, three of which were heat maximums, gave them the win. Wolves' Fredrik Lindgren rode to an unbeaten 15 points, with Joonas Kylmakorpi's 9+1 the Hammers' best. Peter Karlsson was also instrumental in the Wolves victory, riding to one win and four seconds to clock up 11+3 points for the night. For the Essex side Jonas Davidson won two heats and Lee Richardson one in their eight-point hauls, while Kauko Niemenen, Phil Morris and Stuart Robson also won for the visitors. The Hammers will look to rebound quickly when they travel to the Peterborough Panthers on 2, April.
