Doolan topped the Premier League averages last season
Workington Comets have secured the signing of Kevin Doolan as their number one rider for the 2009 season.
The 28-year-old, who has a green-sheet average of 10.32, was made available by the King's Lynn Stars.
He replaces Daniel Nermark who revealed last week that he would not be returning to Derwent Park next year.
"We came to a deal pretty quickly," Doolan told BBC Radio Cumbria. "A few tracks were interested but Workington was the best option for me."
Australian Doolan started racing in the UK with Belle Vue in 1999 as an 18-year-old.
He tried the Premier League in 2002 with Berwick Bandits, making his debut against the Comets in a Premier Trophy tie.
I'm really impressed with the stature of the club and it's going to be an exciting 2009

He moved to Glasgow in 2003 before switching to King's Lynn for the following season while he doubled-up with Ipswich and Eastbourne.
Doolan returned to Belle Vue in 2007 in the Elite League before returning to the Stars last season, where he produced his career-best form.
"I think I've ridden at Workington in every year of my career in England," Doolan said.
"It's a great track and I've always done pretty well there as well which is always in the back of your mind.
"They've got some great businessmen behind the scenes. I'm really impressed with the stature of the club and it's going to be an exciting 2009."
The Comets have already completed the signings of Charles Wright, John Branney and Richard Lawson for 2009 with two heat leaders and a second string still to find.
