Comets man confident of new faces

Workington Comets team manager Ian Thomas has said he is not worried by the lack of personnel at Derwent Park despite the loss of three key riders.

Carl Stonehewer has been released, while Daniel Nermark and Kauko Neiminen both decided to move on and Thomas remains undaunted in seeking new faces.

"It's a problem but problems are there to be solved, and we'll solve them," Thomas told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"There are options about, Comets fans don't worry, we're not too worried."

Workington ended the season as Jack Young Shield runners-up as well as posting a fifth place finish in the Premier League.

And Thomas has been busy scouring the speedway world for new blood to bolster his squad in an attempt to repeat those feats next season.

"I'm speaking to people, I'm not just sat here, I'm actively seeking," he said.

"To give you an idea, there was one day last week when I spoke to six different riders in six different countries."
