Wolves braced for play-off test

Wolverhampton owner Chris van Straaten has warned his riders to expect a tough challenge as the club tries to retain its Elite League status.

Wolves face Edinburgh home and away this week, with the winners taking a place in the top flight for 2009.

Van Straaten has drafted in track specialist James Grieves for the first leg in Scotland on Friday.

He replaces the injured Morten Risager, with Lewis Bridger taking over for the second leg at Monmore next Monday.

"Edinburgh will be up for promotion," said van Straaten. "They've had a great season with great crowds.

"Of course, there is the lure of a big financial reward for moving up to the Elite League. It's going to be tough for us."

Wolves preparations for the promotion/relegation showdown were hampered by the cancellation of Monday night's Olympique handicap event.

A waterlogged track prevented Bridger and the home regulars getting any practice before the decisive meetings against Edinburgh.
