Frost is named new Panthers owner

Ascot-based businessman Rick Frost has completed a deal to become Peterborough Panthers' new owner.

Frost is taking sole control of the club from previous owner Colin Horton, who will stay on as promoter.

Despite Thursday's 51-38 win over Coventry, it has been a disappointing season for the Panthers.

Frost told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "We'll get a few more points so we're safe. We've got a winter to plan for next year, for greater things."

However, he insisted the rest of this year will not just be about keeping the club safe in the Elite League after three recent additions to the team.

"It's not only consolidation this year," he said. "We've shown you tonight the riders we've brought in, we've got a good team spirit...so don't write us off this season, we'll win more matches."

The Panthers have been struggling financially recently with captain Hans Andersen leaving the club following a dispute over pay and Frost said increasing the size of the crowds at home matches was key to his plans.

He said: "We need more spectators and to get more spectators we've got to attract them here by winning.

"Next year, who knows who will be in the team, it may be the same, we may bring more riders in, I'm not sure yet."

Frost, who already sponsors Panthers star Danny King this season, added: "It's my idea to bring us the championship again."
