Havelock began his career with Middlesbrough back in 1985
Redcar Bears captain Gary Havelock says bowing out with his hometown club would be the perfect end to his career.
Havelock's long-term future has been in doubt since his on-off release from the club in July, but the 39-year-old hopes to remain on Teesside next season.
"I would love to finish my career here where I started it," he told BBC Tees.
"Speedway is a funny old sport, and riders do move around a lot, but there's nowhere else where I would want to ride than here."
At 39 Havelock is one of speedway's elder statesmen, and with one eye on retirement, is keeping his mind open on his off-the-track plans.
"I have a lot of ideas and irons in the fire, I'm certainly going to write a book about my exploits and I've already been approached by some publishers," he said.
"I'd like to stay involved in the sport in one shape or form and I've got a couple of avenues I'll be looking into but nothing definite yet."
