Workington Comets rider Daniel Nermark faces a spell on the sidelines after he was left unconscious in what boss Ian Thomas called a "horrific" crash.
X-rays showed the Swede, 31, to have cracked bones in his neck and knee. He also damaged knee ligaments in the incident at Redcar on Thursday.
"It was a horrendous accident and Daniel was unconscious for 20 minutes," Thomas told BBC Radio Cumbria.
"We're certainly not going to see him for a week or two at Derwent Park."
The injury means Nermark will miss Workington's Premier League Fours meeting at Derwent Park on Friday night, although Thomas is concentrating solely on his rider's welfare.
"It's unfortunate but that pales into insignificance, because anyone who saw the accident would have seen how horrific it was, and we're just so grateful he's not badly injured," he said.
"It's your rider's health and we're just glad he's still with us. It could have been so much worse."
