Peterborough Panthers rider Kenneth Bjerre will make a remarkable comeback from a broken leg at this Saturday's Grand Prix qualifiers in Croatia. Peterborough co-promoter Mick Bratley has said he could then return for Panthers against Coventry next week. He told BBC Radio Cambrigeshire:"If we can get our [Coventry] fixture rearranged for next week he will be riding for Panthers with a broken leg. "He's had his thigh pinned and was doing some cycling yesterday." Bjerre broke his femur on 21 May while riding for his Danish club Esbjerg and was expected to be sidelined for several months. But Bratley said: "It's not unknown for riders to ride with broken thighs and with pins inserted in them. "I think Hans [Andersen] rode for a season with a pin in his leg in 2002. "I asked him about it and he said he was young and stupid then and I suppose Kenneth is still just over 21, and he's going to go for it." Captain Hans Andersen would not have been able to ride in either meeting after injuring his arm at the Swedish Grand Prix on Saturday. However, Bratley is Andersen's advisor and said: "Whether he rides in Sweden tonight I don't know but hopefully he should be back for Panthers on Saturday against Eastbourne." Peterborough confirmed on Sunday they have signed Australian Ty Proctor as their new number eight, replacing James Cockle.
