Kroger signs for Somerset Rebels

Matthias Krger
Krger has a great reputation in speedway as a mechanic

Somerset Rebels have announced a change to their team line-up, with new signing Matthias Krger replacing fellow German Henning Loof.

"Henning rode well on Friday," said Somerset team manager Steve Bishop. "But on his overall performances this season we felt a change was required.

Krger will make his debut at home to Newcastle Diamonds on Friday.

"Matthias is very experienced and should bring stability and mechanical knowledge to the team," added Bishop.

"He is an engine tuner of some repute."

Krger, 38, was a member of the German long track squad that won the World Team Cup last year, and finished sixth in the European Grass Track Championship and 13th in the World Long Track Championship.

He currently rides for Brokstedt in Germany where he is a team-mate of Somerset's Stephan Katt, and also for Lodz in Poland for whom Katt and Somerset captain Simon Walker also ride.

Loof has signed for Premier League side Mildenhall Fen Tigers, who are based near his home in East Anglia.
