German rider Henning Loof's win in heat 8 was his first for the Rebels

Somerset needed a captain's ride in Friday's penultimate race from Simon Walker to overcome a determined fightback from Birmingham Brummies.

The Rebels appeared to be cruising to a comfortable victory after building up an 18-point lead with five heats to go.

But Birmingham staged a comeback of epic proportions, with Jason Lyons and Adam Roynon helping the Brummies to victory in heats 11, 12 and 13.

Walker hit back by closeing out heat 14 to secure victory for the home side.
