Redcar Bears rider Gary Havelock wants to see regional centres of excellence created to help develop young speedway talent throughout the United Kingdom. Havelock, 39, has ridden at the highest level in British speedway and feels the future of the sport rests in increasing participation among young people.
"It needs a lot more investment in youth development," he told BBC Tees.
"We need centres where kids can come in, pull on a helmet, get on a bike and I'm sure we would find some stars."

The Bears are now complimented by the Cubs, with the aim being to groom the next wave of young stars but former Elite League rider Havelock is adamant more can be done.
"We have a team in the Conference League which is a training league for youngsters, but it's difficult in England," he said.
"Countries like Sweden and Denmark particularly have structures in place to bring through youngsters which we don't have but the Conference League is at least a start."
