Ipswich motocross rider Jake Nicholls says he is aiming to take the British Championship title next year.
Nicholls finished second this year but missed out on the chance of the title after the last meeting was called off.
The HM Plant Red Bull KTM rider told BBC Radio Suffolk: "We'd fought hard and to have the chance to win it taken away at the last hurdle was a shame.
"We worked hard all year and one day that will come back in our favour, so I learn from a year in second place."
After round eight at Hawkstone Park in Shropshire was cancelled due to bad weather, Nicholls said: "We were 47 points behind coming in to it but there were 70-odd points available that weekend so it was possible.
"I'm happy enough [with second], but I wouldn't want anything worse.
"The win is what we were really aiming for so to come up short was a shame."
The 20-year-old also wants to break in to the top 10 in the World Championship, after finishing 13th this year.
"It was a shame as we were ninth and 10th all year, then I had trouble with my ankle," he said.
"Coming out of a corner I ran over it and stretched it and tore a couple of ligaments.
"I didn't score in five races, three were mechanical but two were because of my ankle.
"That break in scoring made it too hard to get back. "
