Smith celebrates at Silverstone after his best-ever British Grand Prix finish |
Home hope Bradley Smith secured his first Grand Prix podium finish of the season as he finished third in a dramatic 125cc race at Silverstone. The Oxfordshire rider, 19, was back on the pace all weekend after mechanical issues with his Aprilia bike this year. "I don't think I have been as happy to finish third since the first podium of my career, " Smith told BBC Oxford. "One thing I will treasure for a long time is standing there on that podium and getting that trophy." He added: "The cool-down lap was also incredible, seeing all those British fans around the circuit with flags and standing ovation meant a lot to me." Having qualified in second place, his third place finish was his best in the opening five rounds of the championship. Spaniard Marc Marquez took the chequered flag first ahead of championship leader Pol Espargaro.
