Josh Brookes' win in race two lifted him to second in the championship

HM Plant Honda's Ryuichi Kiyonari and Josh Brookes won a race each in the team's home round of the British Superbike Championship at Cadwell Park.

Former double BSB champion Kiyonari claimed his first-ever Cadwell win in race one but failed to start the second race because of mechanical problems.

Brookes, who was fifth in the opener, won race two by 4.3 seconds from championship leader Tommy Hill.

Michael Laverty was third, after coming second in race one behind Kiyonari.

Michael Rutter on the Riders Ducati was third in the opening race, while Louth's Peter Hickman claimed a brace of 13th places on the Ultimate Racing Yamaha with Alex Lowes from Lincoln 15th in race two for Redline KTM after being drafted in as a last-minute replacement for the injured James Edmeades.

Kiyonari made a great start to race one from the second row of the grid and looked set for a comfortable win, but had to fight back against Laverty after running off the track.

The Japanese rider admitted: "I made a big mistake. Before the finish I already thought 'maybe I can win this' and lost my concentration.

I was so calm on the grid... I didn't check everything over and I left it in neutral

"I'd won at almost all of the circuits in England but never at Cadwell Park but now I have so I'm very happy."

Australian Brookes pulled off an audacious move at Hall Bends to pass Laverty in race two before going on to win, making up for his error at the start of race one when he failed to get his machine in gear.

"Normally at the start I'm really nervous and I check everything 10 times, over and over," he said.

"I was so calm on the grid because I knew the set-up on the bike was so good so perhaps I didn't check everything over and I left it in neutral.

"It was so stupid but I made up for it in race two and it was good for HM Plant Honda."

In Supersport Lincoln's Alex Lowes finished third on the GNS Racing Honda but there was disappointment for Boston's Ben Wilson who crashed on the opening lap on the Gearlink Kawasaki.

In the superstock race, Buildbase Kawasaki's Lee Jackson from Lincoln crashed out at the halfway point, and in the 125GP class his nephew, also called Lee, was 11th with Lincoln's Ross Walker 13th.
