Woodhall Spa's Steve Plater claimed victory in the opening round of the British Superstock Championship at Brands Hatch on Bank Holiday Monday.

Starting from third for HM Plant Honda, Plater battled in the early stages with Glen Richards before the Australian crashed on lap six.

He went on to win by 6.7 seconds from Howie Mainwaring, with Lincolns's Lee Jackson 11th for Buildbase Kawasaki.

Elsewhere Lincoln's Sam Lowes claimed his maiden British Supersport win.

The 19-year-old, riding for the GNS Racing team, set a new lap record of 46.808s on his Honda before the race was red-flagged on lap 22 following an oil spill.

Boston's Ben Wilson failed to finish the race on the Gearlink Kawasaki, crashing out in the early stages.

In the Superbike class there were mixed fortunes for HM Plant Honda, as Ryuichi Kiyonari and Josh Brookes claimed second and fifth in race one but failed to finish in race two, with Kiyonari retiring and Brooks crashing.

Louth's Peter Hickman picked up a point with 15th in race one on the Ultimate Racing Yamaha but dropped out with mechanical problems early in race two.

In the 125cc race Lee Jackson, who is the nephew of the Superstock racer, marked his debut by finishing in 14th place.
