Haslam has taken four wins and a second place in the last five races |
Leon Haslam will look to consolidate his second place in the British Superbike Championship in Sunday's penultimate round at Silverstone. Riding for the Louth-based HM Plant Honda team, Haslam has a four-point advantage over Suzuki's Tom Sykes. His team-mate Cal Crutchlow, who this week revealed that he will ride in World Supersport next season, is a further 25 points behind in fourth. Series leader Shane Byrne needs only six points to clinch the title. Alford's Peter Hickman also rides in the Superbike class, standing in for the injured Aaron Zanotti on the Red Viper Racing Yamaha. After missing the previous round because of a clash with the Bol D'Or World Endurance Championship race, Woodhall Spa's Steve Plater returns to the Supersport Championship in which he has taken two wins and a second place from the four races in which he has competed for AIM Yamaha. | To be at the top of your game you need to get as much track time as possible Superstock racer Ben Wilson |
Plater said: "The points really don't matter as, having done less than half the series, I am not in contention for the title, but I want to stand on the podium again this weekend as I have finished up there in every race I have completed." Ruskington's Rob Frost also returns after missing round 10 at Croft as his Team Buff Triumph was badly damaged in a crash in the World Supersport race at Donington the week before. In Superstock Lincoln racer Lee Jackson and Ben Wilson from Boston will be in action, with Wilson doubling up for the R1 Cup race as well. Having been to a track day in order to familiarise himself with the Northamptonshire circuit, Wilson admitted: "The majority of my opponents were also at Silverstone so it's just as well that I decided to go. "To be at the top of your game you need to get as much track time as possible prior to a race and it certainly reflects in the results."
