Bayliss has taken 10 years to claim his first win at Donington

Troy Bayliss edged closer to a third World Superbike title after capturing a maiden victory at Donington despite heavy rain disrupting racing.

The Xerox Ducati rider took race one on aggregate from Britain's Tom Sykes after it was twice red-flagged as rain saw a host of riders crash out.

Bayliss retired after a high-speed crash with 12 laps to go in race two and Ryuichi Kiyonari claimed victory.

Bayliss is now 101 points ahead of Troy Corser with only 200 left to race for.

Driving rain made conditions treacherous at the Leicestershire circuit but it did not stop Bayliss claiming his first Donington win.

Kiyonari had led the race before crashing out on the second lap, leaving Sykes to pass Bayliss.

Max Neukirchner, Carlos Checa and Corser then tumbled off their bikes at the same corner before the race was stopped on lap 10.

Once the race re-started after a lengthy delay, Bayliss passed Sykes and chased down the four-second aggregate lead.

The 39-year-old Australian captured the elusive win after more rain saw the race red-flagged for a second time.

The second race went ahead despite protests from Corser that the conditions were too atrocious.

Kiyonari got a good start and led from Bayliss and British wildcard Cal Crutchlow before Bayliss crashed out.

Kiyonari held on to win ahead of Crutchlow and Corser.

Crutchlow said: "The conditions were terrible but it's fantastic to get this result."
