Sheppey's Shane 'Shakey' Byrne is confident of regaining the British Superbike Championship after the first two races of the season. Riding his Airwaves Ducati, Byrne took first and second in the two races at Thruxton at the weekend to be joint championship leader with Cal Crutchlow. He told BBC Radio Kent: "We've had a pretty good showing at Thruxton. "If we can just keep the momentum going then hopefully we'll have a really good shot at the end of the year." Byrne believes he could have had an even better start this season had Brands Hatch not been snowed off. "We were fastest in every session at Brands." Byrne won the Championship back in 2003 and believes he would have won both races at Thruxton had the second not required a restart. His team-mate Leon Camier also made a good start to the season. The Ashford rider finished with a fourth and a fifth place.
