A wide open race is being predicted for the British Open ice speedway title at Telford this Sunday. Wayne Broadhurst is chasing a record fifth crown, but all 16 competitors have experience on the ice.
"Normally we have some riders who've never ridden on ice before, but this year it's different," said event promoter Graham Drury.
"Wolves' David Howe and Coventry's Martin Smolinski will fancy their chances, but it's too close to call."
Broadhurst has announced he is retiring after the event, so young Jack Hargreaves, who recently signed for Birmingham, hopes to take on the role of Shropshire's number one rider.
England take on a rest of the world team at 1500GMT followed by the best pairs competition, and in the evening it is the individual British Open 1930GMT.
*Luke Priest is a late replacement for Scotland's William Lawson in the afternoon.
