Jonathan Rea was fourth in British Superbikes last year
Ballyclare rider Jonathan Rea had second and third place finishes in Monday's first round of the British Superbike championship at Brands Hatch.

The HM Plant Honda ace, who was in pole position, lies joint second in the standings with double race winner Gregorio Lavilla at the top.

Toomebridge's Michael Laverty won the Supersport race with Suzuki team-mate Ian Lowry from Lisburn taking third.

John Laverty was eighth in the Superstocks with Adrian Coates ninth.

Lowry finished fourth in the Supersport 600s but was moved up to third after Martin Jessopp was disqualified.

BJ Toal from Omagh was the winner of the Yamaha R6 Cup race.

The next round of the series is at Thruxton on Sunday 15 April.
