Chaz Davies had a frustrating 2006 season in MotoGP |
Chaz Davies will continue his career in the USA after winning a contract to ride in the AMA Supersport series. The Welshman, 19, impressed in a one-off appearance for the Celtic Racing team in Ohio during October.
Davies ran newly crowned 600cc champion Jamie Hacking close, a performance that persuaded Yamaha-supported Celtic Racing to sign him for the 2007 season.
It is a welcome upturn for Davies, who lost his place in MotoGP when he was dropped by Campetella Racing in June.
Davies cut his professional teeth on the European circuit and impressed in 125cc and 250cc, despite riding for privateer teams unable to compete fully with works-backed bikes.
After riding for the Aprilia Germany team, a move to Campetella turned sour after the team lost 80% of its sponsorship and was forced to drop Davies.
He will now leave in December for the USA, where he will begin tyre testing for his new team in Daytona, Florida.
Celtic Racing owner Barry Gilsenan said: "Chaz has a lot of talent - top 10 MotoGP finishes prove that.
"Though his four-stroke experience is minimal, I'm confident he will quickly adapt to our 600 machines."
