The Ducati rider took race one in 39 minutes 7.157 seconds and race two in 40:46.260 to go third overall.

Chris Vermeulen came second for Honda in both races while fellow Australian Troy Corser was twice third for Suzuki.

It means Corser stays on top of the championship standings with Vermeulen second. Britain's James Toseland gained a fourth and a fifth place for Ducati.

Laconi, who was second in the 2004 championship, proved unbeatable in sweltering conditions at Misano where the air temperatures hit 35 degrees centigrade.

"We worked really well on the race set-up all weekend and everything looked good for the races," Laconi said.

"The choice of tyre was fine and the feeling from the bike was good, so I was sure I was going to get a couple of good results."

The second race of the afternoon had poleman Corser first away but soon looking down the exhaust pipe of compatriot Vermeulen who claimed the lead before the first lap was completed.

Laconi powered through and then sliced past Vermeulen on the eighth lap of 25 before eventually taking the chequered flag.

Earlier in the day, Laconi had won the first race on aggregate time after oil on the track necessitated a re-start which was aborted once due to faulty lights.
