Adrian Archibald had to settle for second in the Superbike event |
John McGuinness claimed victory in the Superbike race at the Isle of Man TT on Sunday but his win was overshadowed by a death of a sidecar competitor. Brough-based rider Les Harah, who was aged 53, crashed in Saturday's sidecar event and later died in hospital.
McGuinness, the pre-race favourite, was 36 seconds ahead of Ballymoney's Adrian Archibald in the Superbike event.
Dubliner Martin Finnegan was third but other Irish hopefuls Ryan Farquhar and Richard Britton both failed to finish.
Darran Lindsay crashed out during the race but was unhurt.
Finnegan was claiming his first TT podium finish after the 226 miles of high-speed racing on the arduous mountain circuit.
Farquhar retired after four miles while Britton's race ended on lap four when he was lying third and just after the Fermanagh-based rider had clocked his fastest ever TT lap.
Welshman Ian Lougher took fourth ahead of Donegalman Raymond Porter and another Ulster-based rider Guy Martin.
The Isle of Man action continues on Monday with the Superstock and Supersport races.
