Brawn (centre) wants Formula 1 to continue in its quest for improved safety

Mercedes GP team boss Ross Brawn thinks Formula 1 should not rest on its laurels about safety in the sport, after Sergio Perez's escape from his bad crash in qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix. Brawn believes lessons should be taken on board about car design and track configuration.

McLaren driver Jenson Button, who won the world championship with Brawn GP in 2009, agrees. "Glad to hear Sergio isn't seriously injured. That's a scary place to end up in the barriers. Still think we can do more to help with safety," he said on Sunday morning.

Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel insists that being world champion has not changed him. "There are some things I can't do as freely as everybody else, but I can still walk down the street and go to the cinema without any trouble," he said. "And when I go to watch my favourite football team, Eintracht Frankfurt, I watch from the stands rather than the VIP box. There are always people who want to take my picture but it's not a problem. You just have to deal with it."
