Giancarlo Fisichella set the pace for Renault in final practice for their home French Grand Prix on Saturday. The Italian's best lap of one minute 14.466 seconds was on the slow slide in heavy and windy conditions.
Just nine of the 20 drivers had completed a timed lap in the first 45-minute session at Magny-Cours, with Michael Schumacher not venturing out.
But they all took part in the second session, with Toyota's Ralf Schumacher second fastest ahead of Kimi Raikkonen.
Championship leader Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, having set the pace earlier in the day with a time of 1:23.939 secs.
Raikkonen, who will suffer a 10-place penalty on the starting grid after an engine failure in Friday practice, is 22 points adrift of Alonso overall.
