Max Mosley has welcomed Michelin's offer to refund all the fans who attended the farcical US Grand Prix - but claims it could have come sooner.

Michelin's admission that they could not guarantee their tyres were safe to use at Indianapolis prompted the row that eventually saw just six cars race.

"It is a big step forward and something we have been urging them to do for more than a week," said the FIA president.

"If we give them a bit of time, we will know in September what has been done."
