Jenson Button was left frustrated after finishing fourth in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

The 24-year-old BAR driver failed to reward the home fans with a podium place and said: "It's disappointing for me, but more so for the fans.

"I drove my heart out. I couldn't do any more. That was it.

"I thought a podium place would be possible but in real terms we were quite a way behind the Ferraris and Kimi (Raikkonen)."

Button also said that the BAR team had hoped for a better result following performances in testing.

"We came into this race expecting a lot more than we've been able to deliver," added the Briton.

"The race performance was nowhere near our testing performance earlier in the year.

"We really struggled with a lack of grip compared to the Ferraris and it was like we were in a different race in terms of the way our car was handling."

But he hopes that BAR will be able to improve in the next race in Germany.

"We've got a lot of work to do now ahead of the German Grand Prix in two weeks' time," said Button.

"We should be able to expect better traction in Hockenheim than we experienced here and a stronger performance generally from our new car developments."
