Renault driver Jarno Trulli said he was 'very happy' to have escaped unharmed from a violent 168mph accident during the British Grand Prix. The Italian suffered an as-yet unspecified failure at the rear of his car as he was coming out of Silverstone's Bridge corner.
Trulli said: "It was a big shunt. The car spun and the rear crashed into the wall and then rolled over. But I have no pain.
"The security systems worked very well and I'm very happy about that. I feel all right; I just need some quiet time now."
Trulli's car spun rapidly three times after smashing into the wall before somersaulting twice, bouncing upside down and then landing the right way up.
Trulli said that the car's roll-over bar had worked so well that there were not even any marks on his helmet.
He added that he had not lost consciousness in the accident and could remember every detail of it.
Renault engineering director Pat Symonds said the team would not know the cause of the accident until they had had time to analyse all the data and evidence.
But he admitted that there had been a failure somewhere at the rear of the car.
"We certainly believe there was a rear suspension failure," he said.
"The damage was pretty extensive, so it will be difficult to analyse the car."
Symonds said the car's computer had given no indication of any problems until the moment the accident happened.
