Michael Schumacher paid tribute to his Ferrari team after winning the British GP - his 10th victory in 11 races.

Schumacher said: "What's happening this year is unbelievable but it pays back all the hard work the team has done.

"We suffered last year when we took it a little too easy at times and nearly lost the title, and nobody wants to feel that pain again.

"It's fantastic how hungry they still are. I am so proud to be part of this Ferrari era."

The German, who is well on course to win an unprecedented seventh world title this year, claimed the 80th victory of his career at Silverstone.

That puts him 29 wins clear of Alain Prost, who is second on the all-time wins list.

Schumacher said that Ferrari had learned the lessons of 2003, when he was pushed all the way in the title race by Kimi Raikkonen and Juan Pablo Montoya.

He said Ferrari had slackened their effort after dominating the 2002 season and that the team were determined that would not happen again.

"It was big push to turn the season around last year, and since that happened, it probably brought a change of attitude," he said.

"We always had a good attitude but it can always be better. Since then I can see now everyone is so happy when I come back from a race because they have worked so hard.

"Everyone lives for racing and you can feel the excitement."

Despite being in the middle of a season in which he looks set to re-write the record books yet again, Schumacher insisted that his rivals were catching up.

"If you look at the beginning of the season in Australia, we could have taken any strategy and we would have won. That is not possible anymore.
