The Williams team suffered a major blow ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix when chief designer Gavin Fisher was seriously injured in a motorbike crash. Fisher, 40, has undergone surgery for a broken pelvis in a hospital in Los Angeles following an off-road accident.
Fisher is in a stable condition but is expected to remain in the US for around three weeks while recuperating.
His role during a crucial time in the design of next year's car will be covered by senior designer Mark Loasby.
Williams technical director Sam Michael said: "I spoke to Gavin over the weekend, and thankfully the surgery he underwent immediately after his accident appears to have been successful, but he will be unable to fly back to the UK for some weeks.
"It is fortunate that we have strength in depth in the design office, and Mark Loasby will cover Gavin's post during his recuperation. We wish Gavin all the best for a speedy recovery."
