Ferrari may be tyre trouble in Bahrain, Richards believes |
Ferrari's domination of Formula One this season could be ended at this weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix, according to BAR team boss David Richards. Richards believes Ferrari's Bridgestone tyres are inferior to their rivals' Michelins at the track in the desert.
Asked before Michael Schumacher set pole position if Ferrari had the fastest car in Bahrain, Richards told BBC Radio Five Live: "I'm not so sure.
"So far, Michelin seem to have the edge over Bridgestone this weekend."
Schumacher has won both races so far this season, but he was pushed hard by Juan Pablo Montoya in Malaysia a fortnight ago after dominating the first event in Australia.
Despite Schumacher's win in Malaysia, Bridgestone has traditionally struggled compared to Michelin in very hot weather, and temperatures in Bahrain are over 30C. Ferrari complained before the race that Williams and Michelin managed to complete 25 laps at the circuit's official opening last month, when test driver Marc Gene drove one of last year's FW25 chassis.
Bridgestone and Ferrari have not been able to test at the track before the race.
