One of Alonso's tyres was completely destroyed |
Bahrain Grand Prix organisers have agreed to modify the circuit after two leading drivers suffered severe tyre problems in Friday's free practice. The Michelin tyres on Fernando Alonso's Renault and David Coulthard's McLaren completely disintegrated at the new Bahrain International circuit.
Protruding drainage grates on some of the kerbs were blamed.
A Michelin statement said: "A permanent solution will be in place before Saturday practice."
The ridges caused spectacular failures on the two cars.
Coulthard pitched into a high-speed spin across one of the gravel traps after the central section of his tyre stripped off to leave a bare wheel hub.
