Heidfeld drove for Sauber in 2003

They are the only Formula One outfit yet to name their drivers, but have interviewed Jos Verstappen and Nick Heidfeld for the vacant seats.

Jordan are widely reported to be holding out for drivers who can bring substantial sponsorship and personal wealth to the cash-strapped team.

"We don't plan to announce our drivers this week but you never know and that may change," a Jordan spokeswoman said.

Jordan need to name at least a test driver by 20 January, the first day of testing in Barcelona, Spain.

"It may not be the same driver that races for us, but it could be," the spokeswoman added.

"I don't think you could say that any driver was our number one choice but there are a couple of drivers we've been talking to more recently.

"Jos Verstappen came in on Monday to have a meeting with Eddie [Jordan] and those discussions will be continuing in the coming days.

"We're also talking very closely with Nick Heidfeld."

Verstappen drove last season for Minardi and the Dutchman is reported to be ready to bring about US$15m to the team.

Heidfeld, a German, drove last season for Swiss-based Sauber and was called "a prime candidate" by Eddie Jordan after recent testing.

British drivers Allan McNish and Ralph Firman are also among names being mentioned, particularly if the British-based team opt for a local driver to satisfy sponsors.
